Our Calendar is full of Social Events for all ages
and tastes. All are open to families, and children. Some parties
are -of course- late, and we don't think many would bring children to them
. . . but if they did, they would not be turned away at the door.
Our traditional New Year's Eve Party draws great
number of couples who eat, drink and dance until early morning hours of
the New Year.
Early in March, at our "St. Patrick's Day Party,"
Rock Creek Council wears the green, and young and old turn Irish with the
appropriate corned beef, cabbage and Irish soda bread. The band will
accompany our dances, and also our sing-along's.
Of course, the Italian in us requires a "Family
Night in Roma." Then we enjoy the pasta, the wine and the joy of the
Italian peninsula. Nobody goes hungry, and everybody will have
a chance to eat, drink, sing and dance to the many Italian tunes.
For those who prefer the northern regions of Europe,
we have "Oktoberfest!" All the appropriate foods, with enough
beer to wash everything down.
But we don't forget our local delicacies.
The "Family Crab Feast" is an annual favorite. The world-famous
Maryland blue crabs are prepared in our premises, and will come to the tables
only as needed, thus making sure everything is fresh and hot! Soft
drinks, beer, corn-on-the-cob, and a variety of fruits for dessert.
What a wonderful afternoon for the whole family!
For a pleasant afternoon, many of our families get
together and enjoy our annual "Labor Day Family Picnic."
It is an old fashioned pot luck family affair. Families bring special
picnic dishes to share, and the Council puts up the hot dogs and hamburgers.
Then we share all these delicious food surrounded by our children, who have
a great time at our Council Home grounds, with some games and entertainment
we prepare.
"The Thanksgiving Party" is the only one
held exclusively for members. It is held the Tuesday before Thanksgiving
Day. It replaces our Social meeting for November, and after a brief
meeting we eat and have fun with games and the raffle of several dozen prizes
which include bottles of wine, hams and frozen turkeys.
Our Council has plenty of opportunities to socialize
with food, drink, music and dance. But Rock Creek Council also has
many programs dedicated exclusively to our youth.
The "Annual Sports Night," is an outstanding
event which started over 30 years ago. At this event, sports stars
are invited to chat and entertain our children, and there are hundreds of
door prizes. Finally, several children from our local elementary,
middle and high schools are awarded plaques and medals for sportsmanship,
leadership and citizenship.
In December our Council holds a "Children's
Christmas Party," when they are entertained, delicacies distributed,
and even the Elf from the North Pole stops to talk to them, tell them about
the Real Story of Christmas, and give them a small present.
We sponsor a First Saturday Communion Breakfast
for mentally challenged children and their parents, an event which has been
going on for almost three decades.
Finally, our members take active part in the State
Council's sponsored "Incentive Raffle," more known as the "Car
Raffle Campaign," whose funds are used by the State Council to provide
Scholarships for Catholic high schools and universities to deserving children
and grandchildren of K of C members.
